It’s Coming – The World Of Chocolate Tour!

Saturday May 15th is the date for the Monongahela Main Street Program’s “World of Chocolate Tour,” a great reason to come to Downtown Monongahela and circulate! Almost 30 downtown shops are participating in some way.

What Can I expect?

Well, some shops will hand out cookies, some will have in-store drawings for special chocolate items, Hog Fathers will have chocolate cake on the menu, Italian Village Pizza will be offering up Italian donuts (“zeppoli,” otherwise known as “fried dough”) drizzled with chocolate. Candelore’s Barking Beauties will have Sarris chocolate treats for the humans, and also, courtesy of Candelore’s, there will be carob treats for the dogs. Snowy’s Chocolate of Elizabeth PA will make an appearance at Sweets by Mrs. C., and there are rumors of shops selling, handing out, or raffling off chocolate pizza, chocolate-covered wine bottles, chocolate-covered pickles for the daring ones among us, and many other chocolate-themed items.

How It Works

For the casual Saturday shopper, here’s the routine: visit a participating store, or the World of Chocolate Tour Headquarters between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. where you will be handed a map and a list of the participating stores. If you make a purchase in a participating store, you will receive a “golden ticket” with a stub allowing you to enter the drawing for the grand prizes. Take this stub to the World of Chocolate Tour headquarters at the corner of West Main and Third Street, and there you can place the stub in the bowl for the drawings. There will be prizes from some of the many chocolate companies that surround our city. The drawing for the grand prize winners will be at 3:15 p.m.

Grand prizes include baskets of chocolate from Pink House Chocolates of Finleyville, and Sarris Candies (is your mouth watering yet?) There will also be a basket full of chocolate-flavored breakfast items so the lucky winner can start his or her morning in a chocolate-flavored mood!

World Of Chocolate Tour Headquarters

There will be plenty for kids at the World of Chocolate Tour headquarters: chocolate-brown balloons, chocolate animal crackers, stickers, cookie flashlight keychains, a fishing game, a coloring table with a chocolate-themed coloring book page complete with special crayons in many shades of brown. We also have a beanbag game with custom graphics courtesy of Delmar Signs. You can even meet “Riverman Diver Dan” who will give out gold chocolate coins from his treasure chest!
